Our client, located in Cambridge, has an immediate need for a Contracts & IP Manager.  They are conducting a perm search as well, but prefer to have more immediate help, with temp-to-perm (will also consider temp only). They are a fast growing start-up, currently with 80 employees, and develops treatments for rare genetic diseases.  Candidates do need to have the combination of contracts and IP background detailed in the description below.  The temp rate would be $45-$60/hour (based on experience).  The perm salary would be $90K-$130K, based on experience.  Role will report to the Head of IP.  Candidates should be pro-active and be able to work autonomously.  They should also be a team player, and willing to pitch in as needed.

 

Position Overview

The Contracts and IP Manager is responsible for assisting Synlogic with contracts and intellectual property matters.  This role will support the legal function by ensuring accurate processing and recording of the company’s contracts and assisting with other aspects of the contracting process. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills. Prior experience in contract drafting and negotiation as well as contracts administration using contracts management software, and/or in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, is preferred. The position is best suited to someone who is proactive and highly motivated and seeks the opportunity to grow in a dynamic organization.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day contracts management process from request initiation, contract drafting, review, execution, and filing
  • Support a wide variety of contracts and contract amendments, including confidentiality, consulting, service, and clinical trial agreements and review statements of work with underlying contracts and legal/compliance/business requirements
  • Track, initiate and manage renewals for existing contracts
  • Investigate and resolve questions associated with contracts in process and/or existing contracts
  • Manage and maintain contracts database for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies
  • Assist with the negotiation of CDAs, MSAs, agreement renewals, and amendments with input from legal, finance, and business stakeholders
  • Manage the approval, signature, and archiving processes
  • Assists with administration and communication of corporate policies and procedures
  • Manage dockets relating to the duty of disclosure in U.S. and foreign jurisdictions and meet regularly with attorneys
  • Convert, prepare and proofread formal drawings and descriptions of scientific data for patent applications
  • Review incoming daily correspondence and other actions received
  • Administrative assistance, including travel arrangements, calendar management, meeting scheduling, group coordination, and other related administrative duties.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years’ experience in contracts administration with experience in the biotech industry preferred
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
  • Prior experience conducting literature and/or patent database searches
  • Knowledge of CPI is a plus
  • Knowledge of Dialog, STN, GenomeQuest, and/or PatBase a plus
  • Must possess exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be able to communicate in a professional, tactful, and confident manner
  • Must be able to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Must be a strong critical thinker with demonstrated ability to work independently and to proactively and effectively solve problems
