Assistant Manufacturing Lead – Full Time (MDDN) Mirfield, England

Salary: GBP14.55 - GBP14.55 per hour

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Manufacturing Lead to join our client team on a full-time basis 

Working Monday to Friday 6am to 2:15pm

The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day manufacturing operations, ensuring production targets, quality standards and health & safety requirements are consistently met.

Leadership & People Development

  • Support the Shift Manager in leading and coordinating manufacturing teams during assigned shifts.
  • Take responsibility for agreed areas of the shift operation, building confidence and experience in a leadership capacity.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support to operators and production team members.
  • Assist with training, onboarding, and development of team members.
  • Develop effective communication and leadership skills through regular interaction with colleagues across all levels.
  • Support the creation of a positive, accountable, and engaged team culture.
  • Gain experience in managing performance, attendance, conduct, and employee development, with appropriate support from the Shift Manager.

Shift & Production Management

  • Support the Shift Manager in achieving production plans, targets, and customer requirements.
  • Assist with coordinating staffing, resources, and workflow to maximise productivity.
  • Lead shift start-up meetings and team communications when required, with the aim of progressively taking greater ownership of shift communication.
  • Monitor production performance and identify issues that may affect output, quality, or delivery.
  • Support the effective handover of information between shifts.
  • Develop an understanding of production planning, prioritisation, and resource management.
  • Take increasing responsibility for managing day-to-day operational issues as experience and capability develop.

Problem Solving & Decision Making

  • Identify and respond to production, quality, equipment, and staffing issues.
  • Develop structured problem-solving and decision-making skills by working alongside the Shift Manager and relevant departments.
  • Investigate production issues and process deviations and support the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Escalate significant issues appropriately while developing the confidence to make effective operational decisions within agreed responsibilities.
  • Learn to assess operational priorities and balance production requirements with safety, quality, people, and cost considerations.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure team members follow company policies, procedures, and safe working practices.
  • Support the Shift Manager in maintaining compliance with health and safety, quality, and manufacturing standards.
  • Assist with investigations into incidents, quality concerns, and process deviations.
  • Encourage team members to maintain high standards of housekeeping, hygiene, quality, and operational discipline.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the standards and responsibilities expected of a Shift Manager.
