This role can be based out of any NT location with a Miwatj office, however the role will be FIFO Monday - Friday to Mili, Ramo, Gapuwiyak, and Galiwin’ku

What’s the role?
- Work in conjunction with the MECSH Nurses, MECSH Program Coordinator, and Primary Health Care workforce to achieve optimal maternal and child health outcomes for Yolngu familiesProvide culturally safe psychosocial support for mothers and families in the MECSH program, including brief counselling interventions.
- Provide support to assist MECSH enrolled families access to key services, including housing, Medicare/Centrelink and resolve financial issues.
- Facilitate links for Yolngu families with specialist support services, including making appropriate referrals to other professionals and key agencies where required.
- Provide evidence-based culturally appropriate support, advice and education to MECSH families relating to psychological and environmental issues, supporting the health and development of family including older children, providing opportunity for discussion.
Is this the right role for you?
- An understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination.An understanding of the issues faced by Yolngu people living in remote settings.
- Degree in Social Work or accredited Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) with proven experience in Social Emotional Wellbeing.
- A minimum of 2 years remote health experience with a demonstrated understanding of issues pertaining to determinants of Aboriginal primary health care.
- Weekly travel Monday to Friday from Nhulunbuy to all East Arnhem Land Miwatj clinics.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, with efficient time management skills.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of computers and data collection programs.
- Sound interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
- Current manual driver’s license, current Working with Children clearance (OCHRE Card) and current criminal history check.
NT PHN/RWA NT may be able to offer relocation support and clinical educational financial assistance to health professionals who are relocating to the NT or moving within the NT to a greater remoteness area classification for the purposes of employment and further clinical education.
