About the role:

The West Africa Officer (WAO) role is to enhance and increase the University of Portsmouth’s international profile by undertaking recruitment activities in this region markets, attending exhibitions, supporting educational agents and maintaining links with international partners.

will be a member of University of Portsmouth Global (UoP Global) team. UoP Global staff are responsible for promotion of the University and encouraging the best international students to study the university.

Assisting the West Africa Regional Manager, the post holder will be responsible for engaging with key stakeholders in the student applicant journey. Although the focus of this role is on Nigeria, the role may also involve some work across other parts of West Africa.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with enquirers, applicants and offer-holders supporting and encouraging the journey to UoP for suitable candidates, via phone, digital and face to face contact.
  • Work with Global Admissions to obtain complete applicant documentation.
  • Assist in the management of offer-holder WhatsApp groups and other channels.
  • Liaising with partner agents on specific student cases.
  • Attendance at in-person or online student recruitment fairs.
  • Provide regular reports on applicant and enquirer feedback and conversion outcomes to the Senior Global Officer (Sub-Saharan Africa).
  • Keeping up to date with UoP courses, experience and application processes.
  • Organise and assist in delivery of physical student pre-departure briefing

Key Duties:

Task

Recruitment

  1. To prepare and organise attendance at exhibitions and visits, including identifying and briefing additional team members from University academic departments.
  2. To counsel students at and following international education exhibitions, visits to schools, colleges, universities and agents’ offices and follow up activity.
  3. To manage a regional budget alongside the West Africa Regional Manager to ensure expenditure is allocated specifically produce effective return on investment.
  4. To work closely with Global Admissions teams to ensure a prompt and efficient service when dealing with agent applications and queries whilst maintaining high levels of customer service.

Networking

  1. To develop and maintain relationships with appointed agents.
  2. To develop and maintain relationships with existing partner institutions and their students.
  3. To participate and contribute to the working relationship between the Global Office and Faculties within the University of Portsmouth, specifically with Admissions Tutors to ensure a smooth and effective line of communication with applicants and agents.
  4. To contribute to the welfare of new and continuing students through involvement in the Induction programme, social events, societies and focus groups.
  5. To be willing and able to assist agents with urgent enquiries during evenings and weekends to ensure an excellent customer experience whilst maintaining strong brand reputation.

Marketing

  1. To contribute to Marketing plans in conjunction with the Senior Global Officer and West Africa Regional Manager.
  2. To prepare evaluative reports on the success of regional exhibitions/recruitment visits.
  3. To coordinate marketing and recruitment activities targeted at local and national colleges and institutions.
  4. To work closely with the Global Marketing and Alumni team to source additional resource for online webinars, recruitment exhibitions and conversion assistance.
