Manufacturing Supervisor – CNC Operations

An established precision engineering organisation is seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor to oversee CNC machining operations within a fast‑paced production environment. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent people management skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will supervise daily CNC machining activities, ensuring production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You will lead a team of machinists and operators, coordinate workflow, support continuous improvement, and maintain compliance with industry standards such as ISO/AS9100.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Operations

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee CNC machining activities
  • Allocate manpower, machines, and tooling effectively
  • Monitor machine utilisation, tool life, and cycle times
  • Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

People Management

  • Supervise, coach, and develop machinists, setters, and operators
  • Deliver training on machine operation, safety, and quality standards
  • Conduct performance reviews and support team development
  • Promote a positive, collaborative team culture

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure components meet required tolerances and specifications
  • Work with Quality Inspectors to resolve deviations and non‑conformance
  • Uphold ISO/AS9100 or equivalent quality standards
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Enforce compliance with all H&S regulations and company policies
  • Conduct safety checks, risk assessments, and toolbox talks
  • Ensure safe handling of CNC machinery, tooling, and materials
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all shifts

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, Kaizen, SMED, OEE)
  • Identify and resolve process bottlenecks
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and process validation
  • Recommend improvements to tooling, fixtures, and workflows

Reporting & Communication

  • Maintain accurate production reports and KPIs (output, scrap, downtime)
  • Provide clear shift handovers and updates to management
  • Collaborate with engineering, planning, and maintenance teams
  • Support audits and customer visits

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven supervisory experience in CNC precision engineering or similar manufacturing environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of CNC machining, tooling, and precision measurement
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and machining tolerances
  • Understanding of ISO/AS9100 or relevant quality standards
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment

Desirable Skills

  • Formal qualifications in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP production planning systems
  • Background in aerospace, automotive, medical, or high‑precision sectors
