Transport/Operations Controller (CCP01AD) Axbridge, England

Salary: GBP35000 - GBP45000 per annum

Our client are well-established steel fabrication and supply business supporting construction and engineering projects across the region. Our operation depends on reliable deliveries, organised yard movement, and clear communication between departments — and that’s where you come in.

This is not a passive planning role. We need someone who enjoys being at the centre of the operation, making decisions in real time and keeping production and transport running smoothly.


The Role

As Operations Controller, you will take day-to-day control of our transport and dispatch function. You’ll coordinate drivers, manage delivery schedules, liaise with the yard and sales team, and solve problems as they happen.

You will be the operational link between sales, production yard, and transport — ensuring fabricated steel reaches site safely, efficiently, and on time.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and adjust daily vehicle routing

  • Coordinate drivers, collections and deliveries

  • Manage loading schedules with the yard team

  • React quickly to changes, delays, and site requirements

  • Prioritise urgent jobs and same-day requests

  • Communicate with customers and site contacts when needed

  • Ensure vehicles leave correctly loaded and compliant

  • Keep operations moving — not just report problems, but fix them


What We’re Looking For

We need someone practical, decisive and organised — not just a desk-based planner.

Essential:

  • Experience in transport coordination / dispatch / logistics control

  • Calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • Confident decision-maker who takes ownership

  • Good geographical awareness and routing ability

Desirable:

  • Experience in steel, construction materials, or heavy goods distribution

  • Understanding of crane offload deliveries

  • Knowledge of vehicle weights / loading considerations
