Key Responsibilities

  • Labor Relations & Grievance Management:

    • Manage and resolve employee grievances, ensuring that issues are addressed in a timely and fair manner.
    • Investigate complaints, conduct interviews, and develop strategies for resolving labor disputes while maintaining positive relations between employees and management.
    • Serve as a key point of contact for labor-related issues and work with both union representatives and management to foster a collaborative workplace environment.
  • Union Contract Negotiations & Support:

    • Actively participate in union contract negotiations, collaborating with senior management to develop bargaining strategies and objectives.
    • Assist in the preparation and review of contract proposals, ensuring that company interests are protected while maintaining positive labor relations.
    • Ensure the company’s adherence to union agreements, including tracking compliance with contract terms and addressing any violations or conflicts.
  • Labor Relations Strategy & Advisory:

    • Advise HR and management teams on labor relations best practices and help guide decision-making on issues that may impact union relationships.
    • Provide counsel and support on the interpretation and enforcement of labor contracts, policies, and procedures.
    • Monitor and assess labor market trends and union dynamics in the automotive industry, providing strategic insights to management.
  • Excel Data Management & Reporting:

    • Utilize Microsoft Excel to track, analyze, and report on key labor relations data, including grievance trends, contract compliance, and negotiation outcomes.
    • Develop and maintain spreadsheets to monitor ongoing labor issues, grievances, and contract milestones.
    • Produce periodic reports for senior management, highlighting key labor relations metrics and trends, and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Compliance & Legal Support:

    • Ensure compliance with all labor laws, including the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), and company policies regarding employee relations and union matters.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of labor legislation, union agreements, and industry best practices.
    • Assist in audits and legal proceedings related to labor disputes, grievances, or contract violations.
  • Employee & Union Representative Engagement:

    • Foster a positive working relationship with union representatives, facilitating open communication and proactive conflict resolution.
    • Collaborate with HR to communicate labor policies and union contract updates to employees, ensuring clarity and transparency.
    • Address any employee concerns regarding union representation or workplace policies, working towards mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Training & Development:

    • Provide training and support to managers and supervisors on labor relations issues, including conflict resolution, grievance procedures, and union contract understanding.
    • Ensure that leadership is equipped to manage labor relations effectively and in accordance with union agreements and labor laws.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in labor relations, ideally within an automotive manufacturing or unionized environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing grievances, participating in union contract negotiations, and ensuring compliance with labor agreements.
  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong knowledge of labor laws, union contracts, grievance procedures, and dispute resolution processes.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to manage and analyze data, generate reports, and create tracking systems.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with union representatives, employees, and management.
    • Ability to think strategically, exercise sound judgment, and maintain a calm demeanor in challenging labor relations situations.
    • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, with a focus on finding mutually beneficial solutions.
