Building Maintenance Electrician (Shift)

 

ROLE: Building Maintenance Electrician (M&E Technician)
LOCATION: Southmead Hospital, Bristol, BS10 5NB
PAY RATE:
£16.92 per hour PAYE (£33k equivalent temp-to-perm)

ALTERNATIVE PAY RATES:

Craftsperson Level 1 (Level 2 Qualification): £19.41 per hour

Craftsperson Level 2 (Level 3 Qualification): £20.63 per hour

Technician (Experienced with Level 3 Qualification): £21.86 per hour

CONTRACT: Until November end | PAYE | Inside IR35 | 38.5 Hours per Week

 

THE ROLE:

We are seeking an experienced Building Maintenance Electrician to support the maintenance and operation of mechanical and electrical services at Southmead Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs, and installation works across a busy healthcare environment. The role requires both independent working and collaboration with other engineering and maintenance teams.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on M&E plant and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to equipment and plant breakdowns.
  • Undertake refurbishment, new works, and capital replacement projects.
  • Carry out repairs, servicing, and cleaning of M&E equipment and components.
  • Work closely with engineers and other trade staff to support maintenance activities.
  • Comply with statutory testing and inspection requirements, including BS 7671.
  • Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
  • Assist with pressure vessel inspections and associated repairs/testing.
  • Maintain and repair HVAC systems, gas appliances, steam plant, piped medical gas systems, and other building services equipment.
  • Undertake minor fabrication and repair works using workshop equipment where required.
  • Participate in a 24-hour on-call rota and overtime as required.
  • Support the training and supervision of apprentices, trainees, and maintenance assistants.
  • Drive a company vehicle when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Electrical qualification at Level 2 or Level 3.
  • Previous experience in building services, facilities maintenance, or M&E maintenance.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of electrical testing and inspection requirements.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Basic DBS clearance (required due to the hospital environment).

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Experience working within a healthcare or hospital environment.
  • HVAC maintenance experience.
  • PAT Testing experience.
  • Knowledge of steam plant, gas systems, or medical gas systems.
  • Welding or fabrication experience.
  • Authorised Person or Competent Person status.
