Mō te tūranga mahi | The Role

As a Medical Advisor, you’ll work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment—partnering with ACC teams across the country to assess injury claims and provide clear, easy to understand clinical advice. Your insights will shape decisions and outcomes that affect thousands of New Zealanders on their rehabilitation journey.

You’ll work alongside a team of clinical advisors—including those in psychology and allied health—to review clinical information, advise front line staff, and support ACC’s internal processes with professionalism and care.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and interpreting clinical information related to injury claims

  • Providing concise, plain-English advice to internal ACC staff

  • Supporting quality, culturally safe, and timely decision-making

  • Maintaining current clinical knowledge

  • Contributing to continuous service improvement

  • Managing a busy workflow efficiently and accurately

  •  Highly adaptable and willing to lean into new approaches as required

  • Work within ACC’s clinical quality framework, standards, policies, and guidelines

 

Mōu | About You

You’re an experienced medical practitioner who thrives in a collaborative setting. You apply critical thinking to complex issues and bring clarity to every conversation.

 

Ka kawea mai e koe | To be successful, you will bring:

  • Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand

  • A current Annual Practising Certificate and evidence of indemnity insurance

  • A minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience  

  • Team player

  • Sound ability to interpret complex clinical information and explain it clearly either in plain English written or verbal format for non-clinical audiences

  • Strong verbal communication skills

  • Confidence working in a virtual or hybrid setting

  • A collaborative, inclusive, adaptive, and culturally safe approach to working

 

Preferred clinical backgrounds include:
General Practice, Rehabilitation Medicine, Occupational or Sports Medicine, Psychiatry, Mental Health, Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Orthopaedics, Urology, General Surgery, Respiratory Medicine, or General Medicine.

 

Ngā painga | What’s in it for you?

  • Starting salary: $245,036 (pro-rata for part-time)

  • 9% employer superannuation contribution

  • Pro-rata CPD allowance and reimbursement of professional fees

  • Flexible working (minimum 0.4 FTE)

  • Work during ACC’s business hours: 8am–6pm, Monday to Friday

  • At least two days per week in-office (aligned with ACC’s flexible work policy)
