Your New Role

As Portfolio Manager – Credit Research, you’ll lead securitised credit investing across internal public and private portfolios, while expanding the broader credit research and coverage capability within Defensive Assets. This is a senior credit role combining hands‑on investment leadership, portfolio construction and team management, with direct influence on risk‑adjusted outcomes across fixed income and credit income strategies.

  • Lead securitised credit underwriting, research and stock selection across public and private portfolios, including RMBS, ABS and warehouse structures.
  • Expand credit coverage beyond securitised assets, including financials, corporates and kangaroo issuers, contributing to portfolio construction and macro credit views.
  • Evolve and strengthen the public market credit research and relative value investment process supporting internal portfolios.
  • Originate, execute and manage new investments, maintaining deep relationships with issuers, originators and brokers.
  • Build and lead a small team of analysts, embedding strong research standards, mentoring capability and a robust risk culture.

How do you exceed our expectations?

  • The idea of being part of our growth is exciting and you want to play a pivotal role in making super simple.
  • 15+ years’ experience in credit analysis and/or credit portfolio management across multiple public and private debt sectors.
  • Deep expertise in structured credit, with proven experience across both public markets (RMBS/ABS) and private market structures.
  • Strong relative value, stock selection and portfolio construction capability, underpinned by sound quantitative and modelling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transactions, negotiate structures and engage confidently in primary and secondary markets.
  • Proven leader with a track record of building scalable, repeatable credit research processes and developing high‑performing teams.
  • You are balanced in accepting risk in any decision you face. You are curious to understand risk context and choose to speak up as we simplify, learn and grow.
