Accounts Assistant up to £30,000!

Role Purpose

The Accounts Assistant will support the practice’s accountants in delivering cash book analysis, reconciliations, and financial reporting for a portfolio of clients across a range of industries. Working closely with a semi-qualified accountant, the role will involve maintaining accurate client records, analysing cash movements, and assisting in the preparation of management and statutory accounts.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate cash books for multiple clients, recording all receipts and payments.
Carry out regular bank and cash reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
Analyse client cash books to identify anomalies, variances, or unusual transactions.
Prepare schedules and supporting information for management and year-end accounts.
Liaise with clients to obtain missing information, resolve queries, and ensure records are complete.
Support the semi-qualified accountant in preparing working papers and trial balances.
Ensure filing systems and client records are up to date and compliant with firm procedures.
Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and administrative tasks as required.

Skills & Competencies

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining financial records.
Analytical mindset with ability to interpret and explain cash movements.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, formulas).
Familiarity with accounting packages (e.g. Xero, Sage, QuickBooks).
Good organisational and time management skills to manage multiple client deadlines.
Strong communication skills for dealing with clients and colleagues.

Qualifications & Experience

Must have or be actively working towards an AAT qualification (Level 2/3 minimum).
Experience in an accountancy practice environment (desirable but not essential).
Knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and reconciliation principles.
Exposure to management accounts preparation is advantageous.
