Assistant Accountant / Yeovil / £19.10 per hour (PAYE)

12‑month temporary contract

An excellent opportunity for an AAT qualified or part‑qualified Assistant Accountant to join a large engineering/manufacturing environment in Yeovil. Ideal for local candidates who can start at short notice.

You’ll support the Industrial Performance & Operations team with operating cost accounting, month‑end, budgeting and reporting, as activities are brought back in‑house from an external provider.

Key responsibilities

• Support month‑end: cost analysis, accruals, journals and reconciliations.
• Ensure correct cost allocation to cost elements and cost centres.
• Assist with operating cost budgets and forecasts; highlight risks and opportunities.
• Respond to finance queries from the business and explain variances.
• Help document and improve processes and support insourcing activities.
• Assist with external audit preparation and evidence gathering.

About you

• AAT qualified or Part‑Qualified (or equivalent).
• Experience in an assistant accountant/finance role (month‑end, accruals, reporting).
• Strong Excel skills; good PowerPoint skills.
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
• Analytical, accurate, proactive and well‑organised.
• Clear communicator and team player, comfortable with finance and non‑finance stakeholders.
