Prisoner Custody Officer, Leicester Vehicle Base

Your starting salary on a 38-hour contract will be £21,242 rising to £22,427 after 12 months. If you are a driver with a D License and we have vacancies in your location, the starting salary will be £26,676 on a 38-hour contract. Overtime is also available, although not guaranteed.
Who are GEOAmey?
GEOAmey provide all court custody and escorting services in England and Wales between prisons, police stations and courts.
Whether you are driving one of our purpose-built secure vehicles, conducting searches or escorting prisoners, your focus will always be on safety and security whilst treating people with respect and consideration. You will be trained to ensure that all prisoners, regardless of any allegations or convictions, are dealt with consistently, fairly and in line with regulations. In this fast-paced environment, you will need to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
What’s involved in this job?
- The people in your care will have a variety of different needs and it will be your role to ensure those individuals are treated with dignity and respect whilst maintaining a safe, secure, and structured environment.
- You have full responsibility for every aspect of the physical and mental wellbeing of adults in your care, ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing is a priority.
- You will liaise with Prison and Police authorities, ensuring all documentation is completed and correct, carrying out risk assessments on vulnerable or at-risk prisoners.
- You will escort, supervise, and transport prisoners from courts, police stations or prisons
- You’ll be responsible for your vehicle each day, carrying out external and internal checks and making sure your vehicle has sufficient equipment for the day, like food and water
- You could also be carrying out custodial duties within a court location
What experience do I need?
We provide a five-week comprehensive full time training programme followed by a full week of job shadowing, which will ensure you are fully prepared for all eventualities of the role. We’re looking for you to have the right behaviours to care for and help people; you’ll need empathy, patience, and the ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
A basic level of physical fitness and flexibility is required so that you can carry out the role safely.
A Full UK driving licence is required for working within the vehicle base.
