Our client is a leading food manufacturer, that is part of a global group. Due to continued expansion plans and site investment into automation, they are looking for a hands-on leader to manage their controls & automation team.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Leading a small team of controls engineers that are based across 2 sites within close proximity of each other, will be required to visit both sites when needed
- Very much a hands-on role, carrying out the design, commissioning, installations and buying of new systems related to controls engineering
- Support operations, optimise processes and manage all controls related projects
- Project manage controls / PLC related projects, dealing with in-house teams and external suppliers
- Support all engineers during breakdown situations, both remotely and on-site
- Train and develop the controls engineering team and support the maintenance teams
- Drive control standardisation between projects and across sites, implementing the latest technologies, new software/hardware versions & new procedures
- Lead CI projects – involved with bigger multi-skilled projects – new equipment & production lines
- Dealing with internal stakeholders – projects teams, operations, maintenance, administrative and external stakeholders – suppliers, contractors, design
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Ability to complete projects within design, proposals, cost, time, scope & delivery (FAT)
- Must have PLC programming experience – ideally Rockwell Allen Bradley
- Role will suit a hands-on manager, comfortable leading on the shopfloor – commissioning, testing & installations of new systems and upgrading existing
- Experience of designing, implementing new control systems
- Working with PLC’s, HMi’s, AC Drives, Servo Controls
- Manufacturing background – ideally within food or FMCG
- Strong leadership skills – creating training plans, upskilling teams, problem solving, attention to detail, communicating at all levels/teams
- Experience of machinery safety regulations – BS EN ISO 13849
- Previously have worked with Ethernet communication/network systems
- Managed contractors and on site suppliers
- Enjoy a mixture of office and on the shopfloor work
- Happy with travelling to other sites in the UK and sometimes overseas
- Must have strong electrical skills – hands-on
