The B1/B2 Forklift Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, stacking, loading, and unloading of heavy goods using a counterbalance forklift truck (rated below or above 5 tonnes). This role plays a key part in supporting warehouse operations and supply chain efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Forklift Operation: Operate a B1 or B2-class counterbalance forklift truck to load/unload goods from vehicles and move them to designated storage or dispatch areas.
- Heavy Load Handling: Safely move large and heavy pallets, containers, or industrial goods .
- Storage & Retrieval: Stack and retrieve goods in warehouse racking, ensuring efficient use of space and correct stock rotation.
- Vehicle Loading: Load and secure goods for transport according to safety regulations and load specifications.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Perform daily equipment checks and report any faults or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all site safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and adherence to risk assessments.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with warehouse staff, transport teams, and supervisors to ensure timely order fulfilment and smooth workflow.
Skills and Qualifications:
Essential:
- Valid FLT license (RTITB, ITSSAR, or equivalent).
- Experience operating counterbalance FLTs.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices in a warehouse or industrial setting.
- Physically fit and able to lift/move materials manually if needed.
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with the team.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Experience in a busy warehouse, distribution centre, or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) or handheld scanners.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills for record-keeping and documentation.
Working Conditions:
- Indoor/outdoor work depending on the facility (may include cold or hot environments).
- Shift-based work for 12 hour shifts.
- Occasional overtime may be required during peak periods.
