We are looking for a skilled and safety-focused Port Plant Driver to support operations across one of the UK’s busiest port environments. If you have experience operating heavy plant machinery and thrive in fast-paced logistics, this is an excellent opportunity to join a growing maritime team.


About the Role

As a Port Plant Driver, you will operate a range of port plant and machinery to support cargo handling, vessel operations, and terminal logistics. Working on a live port, you will play a vital role in maintaining the efficient movement of goods and ensuring the safe flow of port operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate port plant machinery including tugs, shunters,RoRo, reachstacker, telehandlers, loading equipment, and terminal tractors.

  • Safely move containers, bulk materials, and cargo around the port and terminal areas.

  • Assist with vessel loading and unloading operations.

  • Perform daily vehicle and equipment safety checks.

  • Work within restricted port zones and adhere to all maritime safety regulations.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, banksmen, forklift drivers, and quay workers.

  • Keep working areas clean, safe, and compliant with port standards.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience as a Plant Driver, Port Operative, Terminal Driver, or similar heavy machinery role.

  • Valid licence or certification to operate industrial or plant equipment.

  • Strong understanding of port safety, heavy machinery controls, and cargo movement.

  • Ability to work in a busy operational environment with HGVs, cranes, and vessel activity.

  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Good communication skills and safety awareness.


Preferred (Not Essential)

  • Experience operating terminal tractors, RoRo equipment, dockside machinery, or other port-specific vehicles.

  • Previous work experience within maritime, logistics, shipping, or freight environments.
