Port Tug Driver / Tug Operator

Location: Immingham Dock

Salary: £28,000 - £34,500

Temp to perm.

176 guaranteed hours contract. (176 hours per month)

 

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Tug Driver to support port operations. The Tug Driver is responsible for operating tug vehicles to safely move trailers, containers, and heavy cargo within the port, terminal, and yard areas.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate tug vehicles to transport trailers and containers between ships, storage areas, and warehouses.

  • Ensure safe and efficient loading and unloading of cargo.

  • Assist in positioning trailers for cranes and other lifting equipment.

  • Conduct pre- and post-operation checks on tug vehicles.

  • Report any mechanical issues, damages, or safety hazards.

  • Work closely with supervisors, crane operators, and other port staff to coordinate movements.

  • Follow all port security and safety regulations.

  • Maintain accurate records of cargo movements if required.


Requirements

  • Previous experience as a tug driver, yard driver, or heavy vehicle operator preferred.

  • Valid heavy vehicle or terminal tug driving licence.

  • Good knowledge of port and yard safety procedures.

  • Ability to work in a busy environment.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Willingness to work shifts, nights, weekends, and public holidays

  • Full UK Driving Licence

  • Experience operating large vehicles such as HGV, LGV, 7t+, Coaches or Buses is desirable but not essential

  • Previous experience in a similar role is is desirable e.g. Tug Driver, RoRo Driver, Lorry Driver, Port Operative. Crane Driver, Shovel Driver, Tug Tipper Driver, Class 2 Driver, Class 1 Driver
