Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Port Machinery Operative with a strong background in fertiliser bagging operations to join a busy port and terminal environment. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in port machinery, bulk fertiliser handling, bagging plant operations, and dockside logistics.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate bagging of fertiliser products, supporting port throughput and maintaining high operational standards across the terminal.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor fertiliser bagging machinery, including automated and semi-automated bagging lines
- Handle bulk fertiliser products and ensure correct bag weights, labelling, and quality control
- Operate port machinery and mobile plant equipment such as forklifts, Loading Shovels, conveyors, hoppers and loaders
- Perform routine inspections, basic maintenance, and cleaning of bagging equipment and port machinery
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, COSHH requirements, and port operating procedures
- Identify and report machinery faults, defects, or blockages promptly to reduce downtime
- Support vessel discharge and loading operations linked to fertiliser handling
- Maintain accurate records of production rates, bag counts, and stock movement
- Work closely with supervisors, mechanical teams, and logistics personnel to meet operational targets
- Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained across bagging and warehouse areas
Skills and Experience Required
- Experience working in a port, dock, terminal, warehouse, or industrial environment
- Must have Full UK Driving Licence with no more than 6 points
- Ability to operate port machinery (FLT, Shovel, Bobcat, Skidsteer) safely
- Good understanding of health and safety in ports, including manual handling and hazardous materials
- Physically fit and capable of working in a hands-on, industrial role
- Flexible and reliable, with the ability to work shifts, nights, weekends
Desirable Qualifications (Not Essential)
- FLT / Forklift Truck Licence (B2, conversions and upskilling can be considered for the right candidate)
- Plant or Port Machinery Certification
- Experience with fertiliser, animal feed, grain, or bulk commodities
- Previous experience working on quayside or vessel operations

- Wear appropriate PPE and maintain a safety-first approach
- Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and incident reporting
