Job role – BSL Certified Teaching Assistant

Location- Waltham Forest

Hours – 3 days per week

 

Purpose of the job:

Working under the direction of the Class Teacher to enable access to learning for pupils, and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

This will include working with teachers to support the learning, educational progress and inclusion of pupil(s) with a hearing impairment, with the aim of narrowing any attainment gap they have with their hearing peers on entry to school.

Give assistance to pupil(s) or student(s) with a hearing impairment so that they can access the curriculum, participate in learning, experience a sense of achievement and develop independence in learning and other aspects of school life.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in various educational activities, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs as required.
  • Completing tasks set by the class teacher.
  • Working with small groups of pupils or 1-2-1
  • Supporting pupils within the classroom setting.
  • Undertaking all required training.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • School based SEN experience
  • Makaton experience or BSL  Level 2 and above
  • An empathetic and caring personality
  • A relevant qualification in special education or a related field is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of various special educational needs and strategies to support them.
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding and health & safety practices.
  • Enhanced DBS on update service or willingness to apply for one
