The Best Connection Tamworth are currently recruiting an experienced HGV Mechanic / Fitter to join a busy transport operation based in Tamworth.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HGV mechanic who takes pride in their work and has a strong focus on vehicle safety, reliability and roadworthiness.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of HGVs and trailers, ensuring vehicles remain mechanically sound and legally compliant.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring vehicles and trailers are mechanically sound and legally roadworthy.
  • Diagnosing and completing necessary repairs to vehicles and trailers.
  • Carrying out servicing, including oil and filter changes.
  • Completing Planned Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on vehicles and trailers.
  • Investigating and advising on VOR (Vehicle Off Road) issues.
  • Ensuring all maintenance and repair documentation is kept up to date.
  • Attending remote vehicle breakdowns when required.
  • Preparing vehicles for MOT testing.
  • Identifying and reporting issues that could affect road safety.
  • Repairing or replacing tyres when required.
  • Carrying out general mechanical and maintenance duties.
  • Supporting the wider transport operation as required.

Working Hours

The client operates a flexible Saturday-based shift pattern:

  • Monday to Saturday: 09:00–18:00
    or
  • Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00–19:00

Saturday working is essential for this position.

Pay

  • £17.00–£22.00 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Ongoing temporary assignment.
  • Regular hours.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience as an HGV Mechanic, HGV Fitter or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of HGV and trailer maintenance.
  • Experience carrying out servicing, repairs and planned maintenance.
  • A strong understanding of vehicle safety and roadworthiness.
  • The ability to diagnose mechanical faults and complete repairs efficiently.
  • A good work ethic and reliable approach.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work Saturdays.
  • The ability to attend remote breakdowns when required.
