What you'll do:

As a Management Accountant within the Corporate Services Directorate in Perth, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining robust financial controls while supporting organisational objectives. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve monitoring compliance with legislative requirements; preparing detailed management reports; collaborating on month-end processes; liaising with auditors; developing streamlined accounting policies; overseeing grant registers; ensuring precise cost allocations; assisting with tax reporting; supporting budget preparation; and driving process improvements. Success in this position requires not only technical expertise but also excellent communication skills for building effective relationships across teams.   • Monitor compliance of accounting practices with relevant legislation, regulations, and Australian Accounting Standards to ensure all financial activities meet statutory requirements.
  • Prepare, oversee, and review monthly management reports for executive and departmental managers, providing clear insights into financial performance.
  • Collaborate closely with the Manager Corporate Services on month-end reconciliations and closing activities including payroll, rates, assets, and other key financial functions.
  • Liaise with external auditors during annual and interim audits, implementing system improvements based on audit recommendations to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and review accounting policies and procedures aimed at streamlining processes for optimal financial operations across the organisation.
  • Oversee grant register maintenance and completion of acquittals as required to ensure accurate tracking of funding sources and compliance with reporting obligations.
  • Ensure accuracy in plant registers, cost recovery calculations, charge out rates, employee on-costs, overhead rates, and other costing activities related to various works.
  • Assist in preparing taxation reports such as BAS, FBT, and superannuation payments in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the Director Corporate Services in preparing annual financial statements, budget reviews, operating budgets, capital budget estimates, fees and charges justifications, and life cycle costing of assets.
  • Contribute actively to continuous improvement initiatives for administrative and financial procedures while promoting adherence to established guidelines.

 

What you bring:

  • Ability to read and apply legislation, regulations, and local laws relevant to local government finance is important.
  • Proven ethical approach to duties with strict adherence to confidentiality provisions is expected at all times.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills enabling you to convey complex information clearly are vital.
  • Strong initiative combined with effective time management and organisational abilities will help you manage competing priorities efficiently.
  • Experience supervising staff or mentoring colleagues within a finance function is highly desirable.
  • Current Western Australia ‘C’ class driver’s licence is mandatory for this position.
