Food Technology Teacher – Bury St Edmunds & Surrounding Areas

We are seeking an enthusiastic Design & Technology specialist to join a welcoming secondary school in Bury St Edmunds starting in January 2027.

This is a specific, long-term placement running for two full terms from January 2027 through to July 2027. The role is scheduled for 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday), offering Wednesday as a guaranteed day off during the school week.

Whether you are an experienced Food Tech teacher seeking a predictable, high-quality contract, or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) looking to secure a substantial placement in a supportive department, this role provides the stability of a fixed-term position alongside full PPA time.

Role Overview:

• Position: Secondary Food Technology Teacher

• Location: Bury St Edmunds, West Suffolk

• Working Pattern: Part-Time (4 days per week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday)

• Duration: Fixed-term contract from January 2027 to July 2027

• PPA: Full, protected Planning, Preparation, and Assessment time allocated

• Key Stages: Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition)

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality practical and theoretical Food Technology lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

• Teach core principles of culinary techniques, nutrition, food safety, hygiene, and meal planning in line with the national curriculum.

• Manage practical kitchen sessions efficiently, ensuring rigorous adherence to health and safety regulations and equipment management.

• Utilise full PPA time to assess, mark, and track student progress, creating structured feedback and preparing resources.

• Foster an inclusive, supportive, and sensory-aware learning environment, catering to diverse learning needs and SEND requirements.

• Participate in departmental meetings and parent consultations as required throughout the placement.

What We Look For:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS (or recognised UK teaching qualification).

• Specialist subject knowledge and teaching experience in Food Technology, Hospitality, or Design & Technology.

• Proven track record of managing safe, engaging practical food sessions in a secondary school environment.

• Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire young people through hands-on learning.

• A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
