Job Purpose: Lead the product design and development of automotive components and systems from concept through to production with a bias towards interiors
Duties and Responsibilities: · Manage and lead design team through all aspects of the product design and development process from initial concept to production, focussing on interior trim · Liaise with internal and external customers to define requirements and specifications for new products · Create initial concept schemes · Generate and manage design release schedules to meet customer requirements · Challenge assumptions and think innovatively to solve complex problems · Identify new systems and process to drive quality, efficiency and cost reduction · Work as an individual contributor or as part of a team on multiple projects of varying size, scope, and complexity · Respond quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer range projects and goals · Work with Manufacturing and Quality departments to ensure a robust and cost-effective design of products · Manage CAD models and assemblies utilizing best practice surfacing and solid modelling techniques · Ensure design standards and CAD modelling protocols are followed · Review and check component and assembly drawings including GD&T, specifications and finishes · Manage design document control, including initial costed BOMS to support commercial validation of product · Support the growth of the department through effective management of the team capacity and capability · Ensure the quality of the departmental output to ensure the designs are accurate and complete, fulfilling all of the necessary requirements · Maintain the internal departmental processes and procedures to ensure compliance to QA standards in order to maintain quality accreditations, both internal and customer specific · Provision of technical data to the Sales department through commercial bids and customer engagement · Support the qualification of new products to validate performance to the necessary specifications and technical requirements · Provision of technical support to production departments through problem solving, corrective actions and Continuous Improvement activities · Guide and support the development of more junior staff · Uphold all polices in relation to health, Safety and Welfare
Skills Required: · Degree in Engineering discipline or Product Design, MEng/MSc preferred · Significant experience of Computer Aided Design, Catia V5 · Understanding and experience of design techniques and methodologies · Ability to find robust, elegant, and innovative solutions to complex problems · Strong analytical skills and understanding of engineering fundamentals · A good understanding of materials and methods-of-manufacture · Detailed knowledge of plastic injection moulding and other high-volume manufacturing processes · Experience or knowledge of a complex high-volume manufactured consumer product · Open to pursuing multiple paths to get to the best solution · Ability to generate visuals to communicate ideas quickly and effectively · Ability to manage multiple projects, and keep the momentum going on a mix of long and short-term projects · Ability to accomplish goals autonomously and within a team environment · Respect and understanding of other disciplines, including Industrial Design, Electronics, Quality, and Manufacturing · Strong problem solving abilities, attention to detail and reliability · Proactive and innovative · The ability to prioritise workload · The ability to work well and accurately in a time-constrained and pressured environment · Good written and verbal communication skills · Ability to understand and interpret product specifications and drawings is essential · Excellent communication, planning & organising skills · Energy, drive and results orientation · Strong customer focus

Salary range is between £55,000 and £70,000 based on experience This is a day shift Monday to Friday role with an early finish on frdays and is office based There is also a discounted rate optional car scheme available
