Operational Support Officer (including usher duties)
Location: Maidstone Combined Court Centre, The Law Courts, Barker Road, Maidstone, Kent ME16 8EQ
• Pay: £12.86/hr for 12 weeks, increasing to £13.25/hr after 12 weeks
• Working pattern: Mon-Fri, 9:00-17:00, 37 hours per week, fully office based
• Assignment: until 28/10/27, with a very likely extension
• Training: ongoing when in post
• Clearance: Enhanced DBS (costs covered by the hiring process)
• Possibility of travel for training: potentially to Medway Magistrates Court (travel reimbursed)

What you’ll be doing:
• Welcome all parties to court-including judiciary, juries, solicitors and barristers, the police, and members of the public
• Call people into court/hearings in priority order, coordinating with Court Clerks and Legal Advisers and liaising with the Witness Service when needed
• Provide clear, accurate information about proceedings, including room directions and updates to hearing times/courtroom changes
• Escort court users into and out of the building and support preparations such as swearing oaths
• Collect and deliver files and bundles to judiciary and clerks, ensuring the correct papers are in place
• Support hearings day-to-day: preparing rooms for sessions (trials/meetings/tribunals) and clearing down at the end of the day
• Assist the general public with questions and guidance during visits to hearings
• Carry out general admin duties including filing, printing, data entry, and processing incoming and outgoing post
• Prepare court documents and bundles-creating and updating records on internal systems, typing, and drafting standard letters
• Clerking support for Civil and Family Courts, tribunals and hearings as required
• Support hearings via video link (onsite and remotely) when needed
