Production Manager

Production Manager (PM-PW) Peterlee, England

The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager you will be expected to lead and motivate manufacturing disciplines and their associated teams ensuring safe and smooth execution of production schedules, whilst keeping in line with delivery and cost targets associated to robust production engineering and quality.

 

Responsibilities

Leading production in a fast paced, high volume manufacturing environment, responsibilities will be varied but include:

  • Working closely with section leaders and their associated teams to deliver a wide range of manufacturing activities
  • Championing of a culture of high performance & quality creating consistent operational behaviours, ensuring all products are manufactured within engineering and quality specifications, and budget/cost constraints
  • Overall Leadership ensuring optimum support of the business’ engineering and production needs, including all Policy items
  • Lead the conformity to health, safety and environmental legislation by ensuring all department attenders are not exposed to unreasonable health and safety risk and ensure optimum working environment
  • Drive operational and cultural change through the leadership and management of employees to embrace the culture of never-ending improvement in safety, productivity, quality, cost and delivery
  • Establish, maintain and develop an effective production operation by leading, managing, motivating and developing all employees to increase employee participation, making the maximum contributions to achieving targets and foster good employee relations                                                                              
  • Identifying team development, training needs and succession planning for the continued improvement and sustainability of the plant
  • Conducting SPRs, supporting the maintenance of time and attendance systems and associated processes to ensure company and team needs are appropriately considered
  • Recruitment of new staff (in conjunction with the Production Manager) suitable of fulfilling the needs of the team

Qualifications

  • Degree in an appropriate discipline, Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing or equivalent qualification.
  • IOSH Managing Safely

 

About You

As a key member of the management team you will demonstrate excellent leadership skills along with a proven ability to manage a large and multifaceted team.  The ability to forward plan, assimilate technical knowledge and drive quality through deployment of a right first time mind-set, providing strategy for all aspects of production operations.

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate;

  • A proven and successful background in the management of manufacturing operations, supplying specifically to the automotive industry
  • A committed and tenacious natural leader with resilience to drive for success in a challenging and fast changing environment
  • A solid understanding of commercial manufacturing displaying a strong business awareness
  • A working knowledge of APS and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Excellent leadership, motivational and effective people management skills
  • Proven ability to work to challenging deadlines and targets with the ability to prioritise and delegate in a logical and strategic manner
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills across all levels and confident presentation skills.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing experience within a mechanical components/batch processing environment
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience at a management level within manufacturing, production or a similar role
  • Budget development, monitoring and control experience
  • Strong problem solving experience
  • Continuous improvement experience
  • Demonstrable experience in planning and controlling production
  • A working knowledge of APS and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Computer literate: knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
