R&D Project Engineer
Location: West of Ireland
Role: Full Time
Salary: €40k - €70k+ DOE

Gi Group Ireland are currently partnering with a highly innovative and fast growing engineering and manufacturing business to recruit an experienced R&D Project Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking company delivering advanced engineering solutions within a technically driven environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role within the Research & Development team, managing projects from concept through to development while supporting innovation, continuous improvement, and product enhancement initiatives.

Reporting To: Lead Mechanical Engineer / R&D Manager

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend weekly project meetings and present updates on ongoing R&D activities
  • Support, follow, and continuously improve internal R&D processes and procedures
  • Maintain and manage project GANTT charts to ensure milestones and deadlines are achieved
  • Work closely with the R&D Manager to prioritise development projects effectively
  • Conduct technical research to ensure the latest technologies, methodologies, and innovations are incorporated into projects
  • Contribute proactively and creatively within the R&D department to drive innovation and efficiency
  • Provide regular progress updates to senior engineering leadership
  • Assist in the development, tracking, and monitoring of KPIs within the R&D function
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design, manufacturing, and project teams
  • Support product development, testing, evaluation, and continuous improvement activities
  • Produce technical documentation, reports, and instructional materials where required
  • Assist with design optimisation and process improvement initiatives across the business


Essential Requirements

  • Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Previous experience in mechanical design or building services engineering would be advantageous
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks with strong working knowledge of Revit and BIM coordination
  • Experience using CAD automation tools such as DriveWorks or similar platforms
  • Open-minded approach to adopting modern engineering technologies, including AI-driven tools and innovative workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Strong technical report writing and documentation skills
  • Excellent creative thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of product development and product evaluation processes
  • Legally entitled to work within the EU
  • Fluent English, both written and verbal, for business communication purposes
