Group Commissioning Manager (567TRE) Northern Ireland
The Commissioning Manager Reports to the Renewables Project Director:
Location: Project site locations, Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Kilkenny or Waterford.
As part of the growing team here at our clients they are currently recruiting for a Commissioning Lead to join the team.
The successful candidate will be based in one of the office locations (with flexibility to work from any of the office locations). Travel to and from site will be required as needed by the role.
As a Commissioning manager,the successful candidate will take the lead on all commissioning activities across all Power, Renewable & Substation projects. You will be responsible for identifying, managing, and coordinating all commissioning requirements and deliverables on substation projects. You will be involved in technical decision making throughout the project lifecycle. You will provide mentoring, support, and technical development to team members. You will ensure that all commissioning outputs meet the required technical, quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the commissioning of primary, secondary and ancillary plant and equipment that form part of Transmission, Distribution and Generation Systems on the Irish Grid.
• Lead the commissioning and testing of power transformers, AIS and GIS switchgear, and all substation equipment.
• Lead the commissioning and testing of substation control & protection systems using Omicron test equipment.
• Lead the team and liaise with the wider project teams during commissioning, switching, energisation, and other key project tasks.
• Maintain test records and collate test results and site redlines / as-builts for incorporation into O&M / Safety Files for the project.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and client requirements.
• Prepare commissioning plans in accordance with the project requirements and relevant standards and procedures.
• Attend regular project meetings with the project team, the client, and other project stakeholders where necessary, and address actions accordingly.
• Assess site safety prior to engaging in commissioning activities.
• Attendance at factory acceptance tests where required.
• Contribute to the development of Method Statements/Risk Assessments to cover commissioning work activities.
• Assist the tendering department as required with bid submissions.
• Carry out design reviews during the design phase of projects if required.
• Contribute effectively as part of a multidisciplinary design team taking responsibility for all aspects of design outputs.
• Assist with the development and updating of project schedules
• When required identify suitable subcontract commissioners
• Take the lead with the development of in-house commissioners
Qualifications and experience:
• Hold a relevant level qualification similar to HNC/Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in commissioning substations with voltages up to 400 kV.
• Experience in supplier primary and secondary substation equipment (e.g. ABB, Siemens, Toshiba) and knowledge of SCADA and substation digital control systems (SCS, IEC61850).
• 5+ years industry experience Knowledge:
• Proficient use and knowledge of commissioning test equipment and software (Omicron, etc.).
• Knowledge of the substation, utilities, and renewables sector.
• Have knowledge of typical protection philosophies as applied to the electrical grids and particularly the Irish Grid
• Familiarity with current ESB/Eirgrid specifications & design requirements would be an advantage. Skills:
• Appreciation of the design / construction / commissioning interfacing requirements.
• Well-developed client facing skills with a client orientated approach.
