Payroll Business Analyst (35856) North Rocks, Sydney, Australia

Our client is entering the discovery phase of a major Payroll/HR remediation program and is seeking an experienced Payroll Business Analyst to lead the assessment of the current payroll environment. You will analyse systems, processes, and award interpretation structures, identify gaps, and provide clear recommendations to guide the remediation roadmap.
You will also be responsible for ensuring payroll solutions align with Australian legislative requirements, including superannuation, taxation, and Fair Work obligations, while supporting the remediation payroll platforms project.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting a full discovery assessment of the current payroll system, including configuration, integrations, data structures, and award logic
- Mapping and analysing end‑to‑end payroll, HRMS, and onboarding processes
- Reviewing and validating Australian Award structures, including classifications, allowances, penalties, overtime rules, and loadings
- Identifying system gaps, process inefficiencies, compliance risks, and data issues
- Capturing detailed business and technical requirements to inform the remediation strategy
- Performing cost analysis to evaluate remediation options, system enhancements, or potential upgrades
- Providing process‑focused insights and making clear, evidence‑based recommendations
- Engaging with system vendors to validate findings and explore remediation pathways
- Preparing discovery documentation, gap analysis reports, and recommended next steps
Key Skills Required:
- Advanced skills in process mapping and documenting award interpretation structures
- Strong understanding of the Australian Awards system, including allowances, penalties, classifications, and payroll loadings. Deep expertise in Australian payroll legislation (Superannuation, Taxation, Fair Work)
- Proven experience in discovery, analysis, and requirements gathering within payroll transformation or remediation projects
- Ability to provide process improvement recommendations and influence decision‑making
- Strong capability in cost analysis and evaluating remediation options
- Experience with payroll platforms such as MicrOpay or any other (highly regarded)
- Experience in ConnX HRMS or any other - nice to have
- Strong understanding of payroll data structures, integrations, and end‑to‑end processing
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and documentation skills
