Petroleum Engineer – Support (11/09/2025) Basrah, Iraq

We are looking for a Petroleum Engineer – Support for one of our clients with the following details:

Location: Basra, Iraq

Start Date: ASAP

Contract duration: 1 year (Renewable) under MPH sponsorship

Rotation: 28 days on / 28 days off

Qualification and Experience Required:

  • Degree in Petroleum Engineering (or related field).
  • Strong experience in well service / workover operations and waterflood / water injection operations.
  • Hands-on experience with Production & Injection Well Management, Well & System Performance, plus short-term optimization of injection/production.
  • Familiarity and experience using PETEX Prosper and GAP software.
  • Demonstrable ability to analyze well performance data; conduct offline well investigations, loss tracking, and root cause analysis.
  • Solid communication and collaboration skills; able to engage with operations, wells, reservoir teams, and leadership.
  • Leadership qualities: mentoring, team development, coaching, and ability to stay calm under pressure.

About the Role

  • We are seeking a highly skilled Petroleum Engineer to join our Subsurface Base Management client’s team, with responsibility spanning Water Injection and Produced Water Re-Injection (PWRI) wells. This role is a key interface between the Subsurface disciplines and the Operations & Wells departments. You will bring expertise in waterflood operations, well service, and well workover to help maximise value from our water systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and deliver well work and surveillance opportunities that enhance injectivity and productivity, and optimize water usage.
  • Drive innovation in Wellwork and waterflood operations to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Track daily operations, non-compliances, and performance metrics; liaise with Waterflood Operations to ensure corrective actions are executed.
  • Lead the technical aspects of Wellwork (Wells Interventions & Repairs), including coiled tubing, stimulation, e-line, etc.
  • Calculate Injection Well Returns (IWR) and conduct pre-/post-wellwork analysis.
  • Monitor offline wells and production/injection losses; understand root causes and ensure alignment across departments and clear reporting.
  • Conduct Post Job Analyses (PJAs) for unsuccessful well work jobs; provide necessary pre-work/analysis.
  • Perform ad-hoc investigations into water injection well performance to support technical understanding and decision making.
  • Mentor, develop, and coach team members; lead under pressure and maintain organization and focus.
