Research Scientist, Discovery Biology

W2 Contract

Salary Range: $87,400 - $108,200 per year

Location: South San Francisco, CA - Onsite Role

Job Summary:

We are seeking an outstanding biologist or neuroscientist to join our Discovery Biology group to support preclinical activities with a focus on oligonucleotide therapeutic development. The primary function of this role is to leverage the use of animal models to understand the efficacy of our candidates. You will work in close collaboration with colleagues in Preclinical Translational Sciences and Developmental Sciences to support the progression of our pipeline candidates through preclinical development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement preclinical research studies across multiple programs that inform PK/PD models and biomarker strategies in alignment with clinical development objectives
  • Collaborate closely with safety and DMPK scientists to support pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analyses in acute and chronic preclinical studies
  • Analyze data and report quantitative results in a timely manner
  • Communicate experimental designs and preclinical study results clearly to cross-functional teams and collaborators

Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience in academia or pharmaceutical/biotech discovery or translational research
  • Technical proficiency in wet lab techniques, including:
  • Primary: RNA extraction, quantitative PCR, tissue sectioning, immunofluorescent staining, plate-based assays (such as ELISAs for protein quantification)
  • Secondary: Microscopy, flow cytometry  
  • Strong scientific reasoning as it pertains to experimental design and data analysis
  • Ability to work independently in a self-motivated fashion, and to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced research environment
  • Highly organized, with the ability to effectively prioritize individual tasks and keep accurate scientific records
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Passion for applied neurodegeneration research
