Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with additional learning needs within classroom and practical learning environments.
  • Deliver respectful and dignified personal care support, including assistance with toileting, feeding, dressing, and mobility where required.
  • Promote learner independence while ensuring students' health, safety, and wellbeing at all times.
  • Support students to access learning, participate in college activities, and achieve their individual learning goals.
  • Work collaboratively with lecturers, Learning Support staff, and pastoral teams to implement individual support plans.
  • Monitor learner progress and report observations to the Learning Support Team.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and social inclusion across the college.
  • Follow safeguarding, equality, health and safety, and manual handling procedures at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with college policies and confidentiality requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting young people or adults with SEND, learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, physical disabilities, or complex needs.
  • Previous experience providing personal care within an education, health, or care setting.
  • Ability to build positive, professional relationships with learners and staff.
  • Patient, empathetic, and committed to promoting learner independence.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and person-centred support.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Experience within a further education or college environment.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs and strategies for supporting learners with additional needs.
  • Manual Handling and Personal Care training.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Supporting Teaching and Learning, or a related discipline.
  • First Aid training (desirable).
