Platers – Gateshead

The Best Connection is recruiting experienced Platers on behalf of a leading metal fabrication specialist in Gateshead.

This temp-to-perm opportunity offers £17.50 per hour, weekday day shifts and the potential for a permanent contract.

Multiple positions are available for skilled Platers seeking stable work, competitive pay and an excellent work-life balance.

The Role

• Read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
• Mark out, cut and shape heavy steel components.
• Assemble structural fabrications to tight tolerances, ready for welding.
• Carry out tack welding where required.
• Work alongside welders, engineers and colleagues to maintain efficient production.
• Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment and follow all health and safety procedures.

The Candidate

• Proven experience as a Plater in a metal fabrication environment.
• Time-served with strong practical fabrication skills.
• Heavy engineering experience is highly desirable.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.
• Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques and materials.
• Relevant trade qualifications or fabrication certifications are preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Physically fit, with the ability to undertake demanding fabrication work.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Hours and Pay

• Monday to Friday day shift.
• 37 hours per week.
• Standard rate: £17.50 per hour.
• Saturday overtime: £26.25 per hour for the first four hours.
• Saturday overtime: £35.00 per hour after the first four hours.
