Location: Stafford sites (primary location to be advised)

Hours: Monday–Friday, day shifts

Join a busy Stafford operation in a key compliance role where accuracy and control really matter. We’re looking for a detail-driven Customs Administration Officer to support UK import/export activity, strengthen import VAT compliance, and help protect the business from financial exposure and HMRC risk. You’ll also support operational shipping tasks when required to help the manufacturing unit deliver for customers.

 

What you’ll be doing: Customs Administrator

Trade compliance & regulatory control

• Ensure all imports and exports comply with UK VAT and HMRC requirements and relevant trade regulations

• Carry out regular audits of trade records, proactively identifying gaps, risks or breaches

• Manage special customs regimes including Inward Processing and Temporary Admission (TA)

Import clearance & shipment data management

• Review clearance requests from customs brokers, checking all documentation for completeness and accuracy

• Analyse 100% of shipment data to ensure robust controls and consistent reporting

• Validate auto-generated clearance instructions against broker documents and the Shipment Tracker

Monthly reconciliation & reporting

• Support the monthly 3-way reconciliation between Shipment Tracker, HMRC customs data and VAT reports

• Investigate and resolve discrepancies (missing shipments, value mismatches, timing differences) and document root cause/corrective action

• Escalate any non-recoverable VAT to the Tax team promptly

Documentation, archiving & governance

• Maintain compliance records (Shipment Tracker extracts, reconciliation files, discrepancy logs and supporting evidence)

• Ensure full traceability from shipment through to VAT reporting, maintaining audit-ready documentation

 

What we’re looking for: Customs Administrator

• Experience in shipping, logistics, supply chain or administration (highly preferred)

• Strong data skills and confidence working with compliance checks and reconciliations (MSS data experience beneficial)

• Proficient with tracking/document tools (e.g., Smartsheet) and document management systems

• Clear communicator able to work with supply chain, finance, tax, brokers and external stakeholders

• High attention to detail, disciplined approach to deadlines, and strong record-keeping standards

• Advantageous: knowledge of classification (HTS/ECCN) and customs regimes
