Graduate Design Engineer

Graduate Design Engineer (SNGDE) Oldbury, England

Major Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Graduate Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering company in Oldbury, West Midlands on a permanent basis.

Reporting into the Office Manager the Graduate Design Engineer will work as part of the design team specialising in lightweight structural building solutions

Duties & responsibilities of the role:

  • Management of projects through company design and drawing office
  • Design of medium rise building structures and secondary structural support systems
  • Clearly communicate designs and concepts to customers
  • Provide technical support and advise to the team of Regional Sales Managers, including general structural, fire, acoustics and thermal issues (Training will be provided)
  • Represent the company at design team meetings and site visits when necessary at various locations across the UK.

Candidate specification:

  • Student or Graduate member and working towards Chartered status through the IStructE or ICE
  • Have a minimum 2:1 BEng/Meng in Civil, structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • The ideal candidate would have some experience working with BS5950, BS8110, BS5268, (Knowledge of Eurocodes, especially 1 & 3 would be advantageous)
  • Structural design of a variety of building structures in all materials, but ideally with a focus on steel
  • Have commercial awareness
  • Be familiar with AutoCad (knowledge of Revit would be an advantage)
  • Have the ability to form good working relationships with customers
  • Be well organised, self-motivated, professional and able to work under pressure
  • Be responsible for achieving objectives on own initiative, as well as part of a team
  • Be computer literate and able to communicate design principles
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and mathematical analysis

 

Salary, working hours and benefits:-

  • £23,000 - £30,000 per annum dependent on experience
  • Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 08:30am to 5:00pm with half and hour lunch each day and 08:30am to 1:30pm with no lunch break on Friday of each week – 37 hours in total
