Major Recruitment Oldbury are delighted to be recruiting for a professional and expanding organisation in the Oldbury area who are seeking a Purchasing Manager. 

Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 4.00pm with half hour lunch break each day and 7.30am to 12.30pm with no lunch break on Friday of each week – 37 hours in total. The role is office based.

Duties and tasks will include:

» Build and maintain positive trust relationships with key suppliers and vendors
» Request prices from steel suppliers for new or existing business and present findings to the relevant Division
» Purchase steel of the right quality at the most competitive prices, so as to maximise production opportunities and to ensure purchase
contracts are clearly articulated with regard to pricing/quality/delivery/tonnage/claims
» Review steel orders / bought in items with suppliers on a weekly / monthly basis and report findings back to the relevant Division
» Keep internal Divisions informed of steel delivery status and advise of any delays/shortages/quality issues
» Produce weekly and monthly spend reports on steel, bought in items and consumables
» Carry out monthly reporting of cost savings and be part of the CIP programme
» Carry out market analysis to determine future steel availability
» Development of new suppliers in all areas of purchasing
» Visit suppliers to discuss and review supply performance, and quality and report this back to the relevant Departments
» Perform any other ad hoc tasks assigned by the Operations Director.

Candidates welcome to apply for the role will have the following:

» Ideally have 5 years or more experience working in a similar purchasing role / function within a production / manufacturing environment
» Have minimum Level 4 CIPS qualification would be advantageous
» Have a broad understanding of current manufacturing methods
» Have excellent communication and negotiation skills
» Have a flexible approach to work and ability to adapt to change
» Be well organised, professional and able to work under pressure
» Be responsible for achieving objectives on own initiative, as well as part of a team
» Be computer literate
» Be able to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and pay attention to detail
» Must be eligible and able to prove you can work in the UK and possess a full UK Driving Licence.
