Teaching Assistant (SSSKWHAMP) Hampshire, England

Salary: GBP0 - GBP24000 per annum

Contract: Permanent contract; 33.5 hours per week, term time only.

TA Salary range: Up to £24,000 commensurate to experience.

Main Purpose of the Job

To assist teaching staff in the educational process and in the care and welfare of pupils within the educational environment.

Principal Responsibilities

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people. Everyone in their adult workforce must share this commitment as the key feature of their job specification.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assisting teachers in supporting, teaching and learning in the classroom and demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the subjects in which they support.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of the needs of pupils they support through access to the Live Documents.
  • Supervising pupils, in the presence of a teacher, to help ensure standards of work and behaviour are maintained.
  • Attending and contributing to regular planned staff meetings, training and in-service sessions.
  • Assisting in the supervision of pupils off site, in accordance with School policy.
  • Assisting in the supervision of pupils outside of lesson times as per the rota produced by the Head of Pastoral Care.
  • Administering First Aid and medication as appropriate following relevant training.
  • Performing any other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility for the post.
  • Be responsible to the Head of Education in the first instance and other members of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • It may be possible, by arrangement, to assist in the residential care of the pupils by undertaking extraneous duties.
  • To offer a choice of evening activities under the above point, which will include physical recreation, hobbies and other worthwhile pursuits.
  • To undertake regular Safeguarding and Child Protection training.
  • To demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding, child protection procedures and welfare of pupils.
  • Carry out other duties of a similar nature, from time to time, as may be required and directed by members of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • All duties must be carried out to comply with:
    • Notification of accidents and other Health & Safety requirements;
    • Statutory legislation;
    • Nationally and locally agreed Codes of Good Practice;
    • Fire Precautions
    • School policies
  • To be responsible for own health and safety and that of anybody else who may be affected by your acts.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must be able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Experience of working with a child/children in a supervisory role or family setting.
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant status is desirable.

  • Excellent communication skills with adults and children, verbally and in writing.

Desirable Characteristics:

  • The ability to work to specified procedures consistently.
  • Knowledge of child development.
