Salary: USD30 - USD40 per hour

Associate Packaging Engineer

Pay: $30/hr+, based on experience
Location: Chicagoland area 

Primary Purpose
The Associate Packaging Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and commercialization of new packaging for high-speed manufacturing. This individual will also support packaging initiatives aligned with broader company goals. Packaging Engineering plays a critical role in the success of commercialization objectives; therefore, high levels of responsibility, technical rigor, and program ownership are required for this position.


Major Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

  • Lead planning, qualification, and execution of new primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging and packaging equipment systems

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and facilities to identify and drive efficiencies (e.g., cost savings, reduced changeover time, consolidation efforts)

  • Work within existing technical partnerships with external suppliers

  • Analyze, comprehend, and communicate findings and recommendations to senior leadership

  • Perform root-cause analysis and technical problem solving to address quality issues

  • Create technical specifications for finished goods and packaging materials used in manufacturing

  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities related to manufacturing, materials, and overall package quality

  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures

  • Demonstrate alignment with company values

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Working knowledge of various packaging materials and processes, including rigid plastics, flexible materials, corrugated and paperboard packaging, and labels

  • General understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials and equipment specifications

  • Familiarity with packaging machinery and validation processes

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, sales, research, purchasing, manufacturing, quality, graphics, suppliers)

  • Comfortable communicating across all levels of the organization, including senior leadership

  • Willingness to travel up to 20%


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related discipline

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience (prior internship required)

  • Experience managing packaging validation and qualification projects

  • Familiarity with TOPS or CAPE shipper/palletization software

  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Access)
