About the Role
MSS Infrastructure are looking for Mechanical and Electrical Apprentices to join major HS2 works across the Midlands.
We are looking for candidates who have already gained a relevant NVQ qualification in either Mechanical or Electrical and are looking to develop their practical experience and career within major infrastructure and construction projects.
This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and tradespeople while gaining valuable hands-on experience on one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Apprentices
- Assist with mechanical installation, maintenance and repair activities.
- Support experienced mechanical engineers and tradespeople across the HS2 project.
- Assist with installation and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Carry out basic mechanical fitting and assembly work.
- Use hand and power tools safely and correctly.
- Follow technical drawings, specifications and installation instructions.
- Assist with inspections, testing and fault finding.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas.
- Follow RAMS, toolbox talks and HS2 site safety procedures.
Electrical Apprentices
- Assist qualified electricians and electrical engineers with installation and maintenance activities.
- Support the installation of electrical systems, equipment and components.
- Carry out basic electrical installation and testing tasks under appropriate supervision.
- Use hand and power tools safely and correctly.
- Read and work from electrical drawings and specifications.
- Assist with cable installation, containment and associated electrical works.
- Support inspections, testing and fault-finding activities.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas.
- Follow RAMS, toolbox talks and HS2 site safety procedures.
Requirements
- Relevant NVQ in Mechanical or Electrical – essential.
- Candidates must have a genuine interest in developing a career within their chosen trade.
- Practical construction, engineering or infrastructure experience is desirable.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions from experienced engineers and supervisors.
- Good attitude towards learning and developing practical skills.
- Ability to work on a major infrastructure project and adhere to strict site procedures.
- Relevant CSCS/ECS or other industry-recognised card where applicable.
