X2 Carpentry Chargehands – HS2

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate carpenters and joiners on site.
  • Allocate daily tasks and organise the workforce effectively.
  • Lead by example and maintain high standards of workmanship.
  • Carry out hands-on carpentry and shuttering work where required.
  • Oversee formwork, shuttering, timber works and associated temporary works.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure work is completed accurately to line, level and required dimensions.
  • Coordinate carpentry activities with steel fixing, concrete and other trades.
  • Liaise with Site Managers, Engineers and Supervisors regarding progress and requirements.
  • Monitor productivity and ensure works remain on programme.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, briefings and daily team communications where required.
  • Ensure RAMS, permits and site procedures are followed.
  • Monitor health and safety and challenge unsafe working practices.
  • Identify and report issues, delays or material requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
  • Assist with inspections, quality checks and handovers.
  • Ensure materials, tools and equipment are used safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Carpentry Chargehand, Carpentry Supervisor or Senior Carpenter.
  • Strong carpentry and shuttering/formwork experience.
  • Previous experience working on major construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Gold or Black CSCS card – essential.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS – essential.
  • Ability to read and work from construction drawings.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage workloads and meet programme deadlines.
  • Previous HS2 or major infrastructure experience is highly desirable.

We are currently looking for an experienced Carpentry Chargehands to join a major HS2 project based in CV8 2LH.

This is a long-term opportunity offering a minimum of 1 year's work and approximately 50 hours per week, paying £26.07 per hour.
