We are working with a well-established firm in Aberdeen who is looking for an Assistant Manager to join their Business Advisory team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified ACA/ACCA/CA with around 2-3 years' post-qualification experience in an accountancy practice. You'll take ownership of a varied portfolio of clients, managing assignments from planning through to near-completion, while developing strong client relationships and supporting the development of junior team members.
You will be responsible for:
- Managing a portfolio of accounts and compliance assignments from planning through to near-completion.
- Preparing and reviewing statutory and management accounts for a diverse client base.
- Preparing and reviewing VAT returns, ensuring compliance and identifying opportunities to provide practical advisory support.
- Applying strong knowledge of FRS 102 across a range of entity types.
- Reviewing tax computations where appropriate.
- Reviewing work completed by seniors and trainees, providing constructive feedback and coaching.
- Managing day-to-day client communication and attending client meetings where required.
- Building trusted relationships with business owners and finance contacts, providing practical guidance and identifying opportunities to add value.
- Identifying technical issues and escalating these to the Manager where appropriate.
- Supporting junior team members with their development and day-to-day technical queries.
- Ensuring work is delivered to a consistently high technical and professional standard.
We're looking for someone who is:
- ACA, ACCA or CA qualified.
- Experienced within an accountancy practice, ideally with 2-3 years' post-qualification experience.
- Strong technically, with good knowledge of UK GAAP / FRS 102.
- Confident across statutory accounts, management accounts and VAT compliance.
- Comfortable reviewing work and providing guidance to more junior members of the team.
- Professional and confident when dealing directly with clients.
- Organised, reliable and able to take ownership of assignments.
- Commercially aware, with an interest in providing practical advisory support alongside compliance work.
- Committed to maintaining high standards and continuing professional development.
Systems & Software (Experience with the following would be advantageous):
- CCH
- Retain
- Microsoft 365 / Excel / Teams
- Xero
- QuickBooks
- FreeAgent
- Sage Online and Sage 50
- Power BI awareness
