Mechanical Designer/Project Design Engineer
Reporting to: Senior/Lead Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Project Design Engineer to take ownership of transforming client ductwork specifications and layouts into accurate 3D models and production-ready drawings. You’ll oversee the design process from initial concept through to handover, ensuring designs are practical, cost-effective, compliant with standards, and aligned with project schedules.

This role will involve working on both traditional ducting solutions and advanced modular systems, supporting a range of commercial and industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main technical point of contact for allocated projects, engaging with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Develop detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks and Revit.
  • Produce technical documentation including material take-offs, part lists, and custom installation details.
  • Coordinate with BIM teams to integrate designs into federated models, carrying out clash detection and resolution.
  • Support automation in design workflows (e.g., DriveWorks) to streamline repetitive tasks.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders (consultants, QS, commercial team) to refine scope and ensure manufacturability.
  • Provide guidance during production handover to ensure shop-floor teams have clear drawings and instructions.
  • Manage project data and maintain accurate records in project management systems.
  • Attend and contribute to design reviews, incorporating required amendments swiftly.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal quality procedures across all outputs.


Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical design or building services.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks; working knowledge of Revit and BIM coordination.
  • Familiarity with ventilation and ductwork standards (e.g., DW144, SMACNA).
  • Experience with CAD automation (e.g., DriveWorks).
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Eligible to work within the EU, with fluent English for professional communication.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience in applying digital design-to-fabrication processes (CAD-to-CAM).
  • Adaptability to emerging technologies, including AI tools, for improving accuracy and efficiency.
