Purpose of Job

To contribute to providing a high-quality truck and trailer rental service to businesses in a designated area by the effective management of operations at the branch

1. Key Features and Responsibilities

The Branch Fleet Supervisor, reporting directly to the General Manager, is responsible for ensuring that the equipment based at the designated site is clean, roadworthy and secure. This will include, but is not limited to:

1.1 Regularly reviewing the physical appearance of the hire feet and identifying cleaning, repair and maintenance requirements to ensure that the fleet remains fit for hire at all times and in all respects i.e. roadworthy, taxed and tested, compliant with all applicable legislation, clean and damage free
1.2 Performing a full security check at the beginning and end of each working day to ensure that all assets are locked and secure
1.3 Prioritising the preparation of pre-booked trucks and trailers to meet specific customer requirements and ensuring that such vehicles are clean, road legal and free from damage so that vehicles are accepted without delay or complaint from the customer
1.4 Maintaining a stock of high turnover spares and cleaning equipment within a set budget and ordering replacements when required
1.5 In conjunction with the Branch Sales Manager, safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of all staff and visitors and ensuring the security, cleanliness and tidiness of the premises and all vehicles contained on the site
1.6 Driving of HGV’s when the business requires
1.7 Regularly reviewing the branch’s parking arrangements to ensure that available equipment is as readily accessible as possible
1.8 Any other duties as reasonably directed by the Branch Sales Manager, or Operations Manager in their absence

2. Planning and Organising

2.1 Monitor the branch fleet and identify assets that are booked to go out to customers or workshops to ensure they are ready for the next destination in the best possible condition
2.2 Liaise with the branch office staff to prioritise booked equipment by its intended collection date

3. Problems Faced

3.1 The working environment is typical of the transport industry and the job requires mostly outdoor working
3.2 The Client relies largely on sub contractors to carry out vehicle maintenance and repairs and the Yard Supervisor is required to ensure that any sub-contractors that are on site are working within the company’s health and safety guidelines

4. Direction Received

4.1 The Branch Sales Manager provides guidance on policy changes and authorises all expenditure and cross hire agreements. If the Branch Manager is unavailable, advice is to be sought from the Regional General Manager or Managing Director
4.2 On general day-to-day operations the job holder operates in line with rules laid down in the Branch Procedures Manual
4.3 Direction can also be received from other departments as and when required

5. Skills, Knowledge and Experience

5.1 Must hold a full, valid UK driving licence
5.2 A current Class 1 driving licence
5.3 Effective communication skills and a good working knowledge of transport or distribution would be advantageous
