The Company & the Role:
We are a well-established, tight-knit electrical EPC with projects spanning across the United States. As an HV Commissioning & Testing Manager – Relays, you will be responsible for overseeing substation commissioning, testing, and maintenance activities, while also training and mentoring other engineers. This is a critical position requiring both leadership and technical expertise to ensure the safe and effective operation of electrical systems, with a focus on relay protection and testing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead relay protection testing for SEL and GE-L90 relays using the Doble 6150 relay test set and write detailed test plans.
- Lead all aspects of substation commissioning, testing, and maintenance, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
- Train and mentor engineers on substation commissioning, testing, and maintenance procedures, fostering knowledge sharing and development.
- Perform and review substation equipment acceptance and maintenance testing, including transformer & breaker power factor testing, VLF withstand testing, and battery capacity load bank testing.
- Ensure compliance with NETA ATS and MTS requirements, as well as IEEE, ASTM, and IEC standards.
- Travel 90% of the time to project sites for field assessments, construction inspections, and system commissioning.
Role Requirements:
- Proven experience in performing relay protection testing, specifically with SEL and GE-L90 relays, using the Doble 6150 relay test set.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to oversee a team and coordinate substation commissioning and maintenance activities.
- In-depth knowledge of substation testing methodologies, including transformer & breaker testing, VLF, CT ratio, and burden testing.
- Ability to develop and implement test plans for complex electrical systems while ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes (NETA, IEEE, ASTM, IEC).
- Must have or complete OSHA 30 for construction and NFPA 70E training for the 2024 edition within 30 days of employment.
- Substation RTAC programming experience and NETA Level 3 or 4 certification are a plus.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience performing relay protection testing of SEL and GE-L90 relays
- Experience with various substation testing, including CT Ratio, Burden testing, and Power Factor Testing
- Strong familiarity with relevant electrical standards and codes (NETA, IEEE, ASTM, IEC)
Preferred Qualifications:
- NETA Level 3 or 4 certification
- Substation Maintenance/Testing/Operating certifications
- Substation RTAC programming experience
- Experience working in high voltage electrical environments
