Job Title: VAT Manager

 

Reports to: Group Indirect Tax Manager

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Assist in management of indirect tax and relationships with tax authorities, advisors and business partners
  2. Be an internally recognised expert source of knowledge on a very wide range of indirect tax issues. The focus is primarily on VAT issues but encompasses all other indirect taxes.
  3. Provide technical support and advice to internal customers on a variety of projects (including IT systems) to ensure compliance, minimise tax costs and maximise tax opportunities.
  4. Provide support to senior managers and advice to other team members on all areas of VAT compliance and planning.
  5. Review principal group VAT return, and review other UK and overseas subsidiary VAT returns, as required.
  6. Carry out partial exemption special method calculations and gather relevant information from across the group.
  7. Keep appraised of changes in tax legislation and case law developments
  8. Provide training and guidance to staff at various levels.
  9. Develop knowledge of regulatory regime and support of colleagues in design of products and/or negotiations with Regulator.
  10. Determine VAT treatment of new products and income streams and ensure treated correctly within financial accounting systems

Ongoing legal developments and regulatory issues as well as new initiatives and acquisitions provide a great opportunity for any new recruits to quickly become a specialist in this unique area of VAT and offer the chance to be involved in some huge challenges, This role will provide significant opportunity to make significant additional savings including to external fees.

 

Key knowledge, skills, experience and  qualifications required:

Candidate will have:

  • Strong technical VAT ability
  • Ideally at least five years VAT experience either in practice, HMRC or  an in-house environment
  •  Numerate and strong analytical skills
  •  Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with a cross section of the business at all levels
  • Ability to drive change across processes, systems and people.
  • Ability to effectively contribute to negotiations with tax authorities and other lobbying groups on complex issues to achieve a positive outcome for the group
  • A Tax or accountancy qualification is preferred
  • IT literate – with proficiency in Excel, Powerpoint  and preferably SAP s

 

Location: London (185 Farringdon Road). Occasional visits to Chesterfield, where some of the team are based.
