The Role:  VAT Analyst

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the Tax Team in London, playing a key role in helping the group meet its VAT obligations across EMEA. 

The role will suit a candidate who has a good understanding of the principals of UK, Ireland or EU VAT law, looking to apply this knowledge in a fast moving, continually evolving, organisation which includes both financial services and consulting businesses.

The role is focussed principally on VAT advisory work and the successful candidate will work closely with the Head of EMEA VAT, responding to requests for advice from the business. The role will have elements of VAT compliance work also, supporting the VAT accountant at various points during the compliance cycle and providing technical input on improvements in the compliance process.

It is essential that the candidate is able explain complex technical VAT matters is a clear, concise manner to a wide range of stakeholders.

There will be opportunities to analyse data, to identify VAT saving opportunities or anomalies that may need correction.   

In between VAT compliance cycles, you will assist in making improvements to controls and processes in place to ensure that accurate reporting is maintained in a fast changing and complex environment. 

We will rely on you to carry out tasks such as:

Overview: Assist EMEA VAT manager on projects and advisory work. 

Including:

  • VAT audits and enquiries from tax authorities.
  • Assessing the impact of rulings/changes in tax authority policy.
  • Identifying VAT registration requirements overseas and management of the registration process and return process (including managing external providers).
  • UK related VAT efficiency projects including partial exemption position or reviews of specific activities to confirm current arrangements are compliant and seek efficiencies.
  • VAT input into corporate transactions/acquisitions/restructuring transfer pricing projects.
  • Review of intercompany agreements and commercial contracts.
  • Assisting the UK VAT compliance team with maintaining and optimising the MTD solution.
  • Co-ordination of the Ireland VAT return and preparation of return for review by local finance teams. Technical input on queries arising during the compliance process including application of reverse charge on cross border transactions.

 

What you need to have: 

  • 3+ years VAT experience and familiarity with VAT legislation.
  • Able to manage multiple projects/workstreams and the resolve to see each project through to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to review existing processes and seek continuous improvement.
  • Able to undertake research independently and form own conclusions and recommendations.
  • Competent with MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
