Application Architect (AWS Cloud Migration)
Atrium EMEA are supporting a major UK Government organisation in the search for an experienced Application Architect to join a large-scale cloud transformation programme on an initial contract basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Application Architect, Solution Architect or Cloud Architect with proven AWS migration experience to support the refactoring and migration of critical applications into AWS within a complex, multi-supplier delivery environment. The successful candidate will work closely with client stakeholders, delivery teams and senior architects to define, assure and deliver key architecture outcomes.
Key Requirements
• Proven experience delivering application migrations to AWS.
• Strong Application Architecture or Solution Architecture background.
• Experience developing reference architectures and target-state designs.
• Experience conducting architecture impact assessments and providing architectural assurance.
• Experience creating architecture artefacts to support technical and business decision-making.
• Experience working within large-scale multi-supplier delivery environments.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience working on application modernisation, refactoring or cloud transformation programmes.
• Ability to engage effectively with technical teams, suppliers and senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities
• Support the Lead Architect in the design and delivery of application migration activities.
• Assess existing application landscapes and define target-state architectures.
• Produce and maintain architecture documentation and design artefacts.
• Develop and assure reference architectures across the programme.
• Conduct architecture impact assessments and identify technical risks and dependencies.
• Support architecture governance and decision-making processes.
• Work closely with client teams and programme stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
• Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture principles and cloud best practice.
Contract Details
• Location: Remote UK with occasional travel to Manchester, London or Newcastle (typically 1-2 days per month).
• Travel: Candidates must live within a commutable distance of Manchester, London or Newcastle. Travel to a non-base location will be fully expensed.
• Duration: 6-month initial contract (extensions likely)
• Rate: £625-£660 per day Inside IR35
• Start Date: ASAP
Essential Requirements
• Must have delivered AWS application migration programmes.
• Must have strong Application Architecture or Solution Architecture experience.
• Must have experience creating reference architectures and architecture decision artefacts.
• Must have experience working within complex multi-supplier environments.
• Must have completed a minimum of 5 years continuous UK residency.
• Must be UK-based and live within a commutable distance of Manchester, London or Newcastle.
• Must be willing to travel occasionally when required. Travel to a non-base location will be fully expensed.

The successful candidate will be supporting a major Government transformation programme and will therefore be required to meet residency requirements. Previous experience delivering architecture work within large public sector, government or enterprise transformation programmes would be highly advantageous.
