Linux Build Engineer

Linux Build Engineer (1039) Northampton, England

Gibbs Hybrid is looking for a skilled Linux Build Engineer to work for our client, a world leading financial services organisation. The end-client is a top UK financial services institution, so you must have recent financial services/banking experience with enterprise level clients to be considered.

Day rate: Up to £500 per day (inside IR35)
Location: 2 days per week is required, ideally in Northampton, or Cheshire (other locations may be a possibility)

Overall purpose of role
As a Linux Lead Engineer, we expect to possess a healthy mixture of both technical and leadership skills. Successful candidate would have an expert knowledge of Unix – RHEL environments, facilitating technologies and be capable to drive change majorly targeting RHEL platform and its ancillary tools. Understanding of development life cycles process and using any scripting language is important to deliver key engineering deliverables. Responsibilities will include automation, optimization, research of new technologies and develop cyber resilient framework. You may be asked to dive in to a major project delivering the solution as per design. The primary responsibility will be to understand the life cycle existing product sets, help to shape backup and restore mechanism of Linux server estate and implement it. Often, you’ll have to write code

Key Accountabilities
• Work within the global Linux Server Engineering team to deliver on critical project and items related to the Linux Server Cyber Resilient framework engineering and development.
•Support the long-term evolution of Linux as a server operating system within the Clients system
•Deliver and work with toolsets needed to support Linux
•Work closely with support and project delivery Linux teams, to ensure the engineering deliverables meet Cyber Resiliency design needs


Person Specification

An engineer who has worked on the Linux Server platform specializing in platform operating system engineering and automation implementations in a large, global environment is required. It is preferable if this experience has been gained whilst working in financial services

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

•Hands-on technical knowledge of the Linux Server Operating System (preferably RHEL)
•Practical experience with Automation, Configuration, or Security tools (i.e. Ansible, Powerbroker, Chef, Jenkins, etc.)
•Development experience with Python and/or scripting languages
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to work in a globally distributed team of both colleagues and business stakeholders


Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
•Knowledge of enterprise networking and storage concepts
•Good problem solving and analytical skills and able to transfer skills and knowledge to other team members
•Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.)
•Knowledge of AIX or other UNIX based operating systems
