Estimator – Cast Stone / Construction

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm

Major Recruitment are working with a specialist manufacturer within the cast stone and architectural construction sector, who are looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to join their team.

This is a technically focused estimating role and would suit an experienced Estimator, Quantity Surveyor or Structural Engineer with strong CAD experience and a solid understanding of structural construction.

The Role

• Prepare accurate and commercially competitive estimates and quotations for cast stone and architectural construction projects.

• Review and interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings, specifications and project information.

• Use CAD to understand drawings, dimensions, profiles and technical details and assist with accurate quantity take-offs.

• Calculate quantities, materials, labour and manufacturing requirements to produce detailed project costs.

• Estimate bespoke cast stone products including window cills, heads, surrounds, copings, pier caps, columns, pilasters, porticos, balustrades, plinths, quoins, cornices and other architectural features.

• Understand how bespoke designs translate into patterns, moulds and manufactured cast stone components.

• Consider practical manufacturing requirements when reviewing designs and identify potential issues with dimensions, profiles or complexity.

• Take into account relevant structural and installation considerations, including fixings, connections, joints, bearings and product requirements.

• Work closely with design/CAD teams to ensure drawings and specifications are suitable for manufacture.

• Liaise with customers, architects, contractors, structural engineers and other project stakeholders to clarify technical requirements.

• Review project specifications and identify potential commercial or technical risks before quotations are submitted.

• Obtain and assess material, supplier and associated project costs.

• Produce clear and accurate quotations within agreed timescales.

• Support projects from initial enquiry and estimating through to design, manufacture and delivery.

• Maintain accurate estimating records and assist with project cost reviews where required.

About You

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience as an Estimator within construction, architectural products, precast, cast stone, concrete or specialist manufacturing.

• Alternatively, experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Structural Engineer with strong estimating/commercial exposure.

• Good understanding of structural construction and building methods.

• Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings.

• Confident and practical CAD experience.

• Experience carrying out quantity take-offs and calculating material and project costs.

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

• The ability to understand how a technical drawing translates into a manufactured and installed product.

• Strong communication skills and the confidence to liaise with technical, commercial and customer-facing stakeholders.

• A practical mindset with the ability to identify potential manufacturing or installation challenges.

Relevant Backgrounds

Direct experience within cast stone or precast concrete would be highly advantageous, but is not essential for the right candidate.
