Sr. Research Associate/Scientist - Organic Chemistry
W2 Contract
Location: South San Francisco, CA - Onsite Role
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Sr. Research Associate/Scientist, Organic Chemistry for a contract assignment to support our Chemistry team. Reporting to the Sr. Scientist, this individual will be responsible for the synthesis, purification, and tracking of target molecules. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and a demonstrated ability to contribute to drug discovery efforts in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Synthesize, purify, and characterize synthetic intermediates and final compounds on milligram-to-multigram scale
- Analyze results, generate reports, and communicate findings to the Chemistry Team regularly
- Work alongside the Chemistry Team to develop new synthetic methodologies
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic notebook documentation of laboratory activities.
- Develop and design novel compounds, following up with data
- Be an active contributor to the efforts of our Chemistry Team
Requirements and Qualifications:
- B.S/B.A. with 8+ years or M.S/M.A Ph.D. in Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with 2-5+ years of laboratory experience in an organic chemistry setting
- Industry experience or experience in peptide synthesis, preferred
- Expertise in organic synthesis and conversant with current literature
- Must have experience with common laboratory equipment (LC-MS, Flash Chromatography systems, HPLC, etc.)
- High level of creativity, knowledge of reaction mechanisms, with strong synthetic problem-solving approaches to a given compound.
- Self-motivated and independent with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Must be able to manage competing priorities.
- Adept at following written protocols and verbal instructions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates excellent note-taking skills.
- Proficient in the use of an electronic notebook, Microsoft Office, ChemDraw, and MestReNova (or equivalent)
- Strong interest and experience working in a team setting.
- Must be able and willing to work at the lab bench/fume hood for the majority of the workday.
- Must be able to lift/reach/manipulate laboratory equipment independently
