Senior Azure Integration & Automation Engineer
W2 Contract
Pay Rate: $95 - $105 per hour
Location: Redwood City, CA - Remote Role
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure Integration & Automation Engineer (Contract) to design, implement, and operationalize secure, scalable Azure-based integrations and automation solutions. This role is a hands-on individual contributor, focused on delivery and platform enablement rather than people management. You will partner closely with IT, Security, and business application owners to build production-ready integrations and establish repeatable standards across the enterprise. All acronyms and technologies referenced below are defined within context.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and implement integration workflows across SaaS and internal systems using Azure Functions.
- Build, publish, and manage APIs using Azure API Management (APIM), including versioning, product configuration, and developer onboarding guidance.
- Implement APIM policies for authentication/authorization, throttling and quotas, transformation, logging, and IP filtering as required.
- Develop Azure Functions (C#/.NET, Node.js/TypeScript, or Python) for data transformation, enrichment, orchestration helpers, and lightweight services.
- Implement standardized error handling, retry logic, idempotency, and exception capture patterns.
- Implement secrets and credential management using Azure Key Vault, including managed identity access and rotation-friendly patterns.
- Apply secure-by-default practices such as role-based access control (RBAC), least privilege, and managed identities.
- Implement centralized logging, monitoring, and alerting using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics, including correlation IDs across APIM, Logic Apps, and Functions.
- Create operational runbooks, support documentation, and handoff materials for production support teams.
- Establish reusable templates and patterns (Function App standards, APIM policy snippets).
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for repeatable deployments and environment promotion (Dev/Test/Prod).
- Partner with stakeholders to define integration requirements, service-level expectations, and support models.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in integration, automation, or cloud engineering, including 2+ years of hands-on Azure delivery.
- Proven experience with:
- Azure API Management (APIM) – policies, products/subscriptions, authentication patterns
- Azure Functions – serverless development (C#/.NET, Node.js, TypeScript, or Python)
- Azure Key Vault – secrets, certificates, and managed identities
- Azure Monitor / Log Analytics – KQL queries, dashboards, and alerts
- Azure SQL Server – data definition, queries, stored procedures
- Strong understanding of integration fundamentals: REST/JSON, webhooks, OAuth2, JWT, managed identity, retries, and idempotency.
- Experience delivering production systems with operational maturity (monitoring, alerting, and runbooks).
- Familiarity with enterprise tooling such as Git, Jira, and ServiceNow.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps.
- Experience with Terraform.
- Knowledge of Azure networking and security patterns, including private endpoints and virtual network integration.
- Experience integrating enterprise business applications such as Workday, NetSuite, ServiceNow, Microsoft 365, ADP, and similar platforms.
- Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., SOC 1/2, SOX, GxP) with audit-friendly logging practices.
